Be Strong

Depend Upon the Strength God Provides

“Be strong.” — 1 Corinthians 16:13

God commands Christian men to be strong. Yet biblical strength differs from self-reliance. It begins by recognizing our weakness and depending upon God.

A strong man does not pretend that pain, fear, or weariness do not exist. He brings them honestly before God. He then continues obeying, even when obedience feels difficult.

God supplies strength through His Word, prayer, the local church, and the work of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, spiritual strength grows through ordinary faithfulness. It develops as men worship, serve, endure, repent, and persevere.

Biblical strength also includes gentleness and self-control. An uncontrolled man is not strong. Anger, pride, and domination reveal weakness, not maturity. True strength remains governed by love and submitted to Christ.

Christian men will face disappointment, suffering, temptation, and loss. However, God never abandons His people. His grace remains sufficient, and His power is displayed through human weakness.

What Biblical Strength Requires

  • Admit your weakness before God.
  • Pray instead of relying only upon yourself.
  • Remain faithful during hardship.
  • Control anger, appetites, and speech.
  • Receive support from Christian brothers.
  • Strengthen others who are discouraged.
  • Trust God when results remain uncertain.
  • Persevere in ordinary responsibilities.

Questions for Reflection

  • Where am I relying upon myself instead of God?
  • How do I respond when I feel weak or afraid?
  • Does my strength produce safety for others?
  • What hardship currently requires perseverance?
  • Who needs encouragement from me?

Take the Next Step

Bring one weakness honestly before God. Ask for His strength, then continue with the next faithful responsibility.

Be strong in the Lord, not merely strong in yourself.
